One of the benefits of shared living is the opportunity to widen your social circle. If you’re
renting a room in co-living space in Singapore, why not take the chance to get to know your flatmates a little better?
When your schedules align during weekends, that’s the perfect time to hang out together in a social setting. Here are some fun weekend activities you can try with your roommates.
1. Hit the beach at Sentosa
Check the weather forecast and if it’s a sunny day, hit the beaches at Sentosa for some R&R. Grab a towel, sunscreen and a change of clothes in case you are going into the water. Oh, and pack some snacks to share.
2. Go on a culinary adventure
Singapore is a food paradise. From exquisite fine dining to delectable hawker eats and everything in between, there are plenty of options to choose from. If you’re new to Singapore, familiarise yourself with local fare. Take your pick from chilli crab, nasi lemak, prata, fish head curry, laksa, Hainanese chicken rice, satay, carrot cake and more.
3. Catch a movie
If you and your roommate are film buffs, then catch the latest screenings at the cinema. Alternatively, binge watch a Netflix series together from the comforts of home.
4. Go hiking
Despite Singapore’s small size, there are many walking trails and parks across the island such as the MacRitchie Reservoir, Rail Corridor, East Coast Park, the Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve and many more. Spend some quality time with your roommate going hiking. Enjoy fresh air and get fit at the same time!
5. Take a road trip to Malaysia
With the borders now open, squeeze in a road trip across the Causeway to Johor Bahru during the weekend. Sample local food or shop to your heart’s content at much lower prices because of the exchange rate. Hire a car and drive up north or opt for door-to-door private transport to save you the hassle of driving.
6. Get off the beaten track
For a rustic weekend, why not head to one of the smaller islands around Singapore? You can hop on a ferry to get to Pulau Ubin, Lazarus Island or St John Island, or bike or walk across to Coney Island. Get in touch with nature during this all-day trip.
7. Get active
Do you and your roommate like physical activity? Then go cycling, rock climbing or running together during the weekend. Alternatively, hit up one of the gyms or join a fitness class together. Or why not enjoy a game of tennis or form a team with other friends for a game of futsal?
8. Hit up the museums
Are you a culture vulture? Then bring your roommate along for an excursion to the many museums in Singapore. We suggest starting with the National Museum, the Asian Civilisations Museum, the National Gallery or the ArtScience Museum.
9. Be a tourist
Even though you’re living in Singapore, you can still be a tourist here. Explore your own backyard and visit some of the well-known tourist attraction during your free time such as the Gardens by the Bay, the Botanic Gardens (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), Marina Bay Sands, the Singapore Zoo, Universal Studios at Sentosa and more.
10. Get tickets to a concert
With the easing of social distancing measures, live performances can now be held again in Singapore. Scour Sistic to check out upcoming events or shows. Enjoy an orchestra session, a theatre performance, a musical show or even a live concert with your roommate.
