Where to Live If You Work in Raffles Place

Raffles Place is located at the heart of Singapore’s Central Business District (CBD) and the setting for images of Singapore’s iconic skyline. As the commercial and financial engine of Singapore, it houses the corporate headquarters and offices of many well-known MNCs, home-grown companies, and global and local financial institutions.

If you’re busy individual who works long hours in Raffles Place and do not want to the hassle of a long commute to work, you’ll want to live fairly close to the CBD. Here, the most convenient option is to live within a close distance to an MRT station situated on the East-West MRT line. That’s because Raffles Place MRT Station is right in the middle of the East-West line.

Here are some areas you can consider which are all less than 6 stops away from Raffles Place:

Tanjong Pagar

Tanjong Pagar is just one stop away from Raffles Place. If you don’t want to take the train, you can even consider walking to work everyday. It’s just a 10-15 minute walk and you can clock this in as part of your daily exercise.

Tanjong Pagar has a vibrant F&B scene with a multitude of local and international cuisine available, so you’ll have no problem finding food. For cheaper eats, there’s the Tanjong Pagar Plaza Market & and Food Centre. Maxwell Food Center is another hawker centre that’s not too far away either. Because of its close proximity to the CBD, rents in Tanjong Pagar may be on the steeper side.

Bugis

Bugis is a great choice for those who want to live on the city fringes. You’re only a 10-minute train ride away from Raffles Place and this short commute will definitely save you time.

There are many chic restaurants, cafes and nightspots around this area and malls such as Bugis Junction and Bugis Plus. Raffles City is also just one stop away. If you love the bohemian vibe, Haji Lane and Arab Street just round the corner as well.

Tiong Bahru

Tiong Bahru is only 3 stops away from Raffles Place and has gained popularity due to its hipster vibe. A mature estate with a rich heritage, it is now home to plenty of unique retail stores, artisan cafes, and street art.

For your hawker fix, you can head to Tiong Bahru Market. Getting to work in Raffles Place is super convenient via Tiong Bahru MRT. Across the MRT, Tiong Bahru Plaza is where you can get your daily necessities.

Paya Lebar

Situated in the East of Singapore, Paya Lebar is a very convenient place to live. There’s supermarkets, eateries and shopping galore all concentrated around the Paya Lebar MRT Station.

You can get your shopping fix at Paya Lebar Square, PLQ Mall and SingPost Centre which all surround the MRT station. There’s also Kinex and City Plaza (for cheap clothing) within a couple of minutes walk away. Besides being situated on the East-West line, Paya Lebar is also part of the Circle Line, which gives you another way getting to other areas of Singapore.

If you’ve just moved to Singapore, are working in Raffles Place, and consider convenience as your number one priority, you can consider the areas we have just mentioned.
